The first AI solution for reduced bias and child-friendly language in the DACH region

Bias Reduction: A Step Toward Fairness

Founders Dima Rubanov and Matthias Neumayer recognized the limitations of existing AI models, particularly in the field of children's education. "While working with AI-generated children's stories, we noticed that male children were often portrayed as heroes, while female characters frequently took on victim roles, and the language used, even in GPT-4, was hardly child-friendly," explains Rubanov. "With LORA, we are working on a child-friendly AI adaptation with reduced bias."

LORA relies on fine-tuning open-source models from Mistral. By utilizing specially curated, high-quality datasets created in collaboration with educators, LORA achieves better results than GPT-4 or Gemini. The goal is to provide children with a fairer perspective of the world and to optimize the representation of gender roles in AI-generated content.

Supported by Renowned Institutions

LORA is being developed in collaboration with the Munich Social Pedagogy Academy and TRUSTIFAI. The project is funded, among others, by the Federal Ministry for Digitalization and Business Location (BMDW) and Austria Wirtschaftsservice (AWS).

Technical Innovation

The experimental AI Lorastral-7B is based on Mistral's powerful open-source model and has been optimized for educational purposes with contributions from educators. A unique feature is the age-appropriate language that optimally adapts content for different age groups (6-8 and 8-10 years).

Benchmark Tests: Leading in Readability

LORA achieves outstanding results in explaining German terms for children. Compared to other models, LORA offers significantly improved readability for children. Additionally, our model uniquely differentiates between various school levels.

Bias Analysis: Gender-Neutral Language

LORA shows a significant improvement over other models in the use of gender-neutral language in initial benchmarks.

Future Plans: API for Educational Platforms

In the long term, the company plans to make the underlying API accessible to other providers in the children's entertainment sector to foster the development of further innovative and educational applications for children. LORA is currently in the alpha phase and is seeking partners for integration into educational platforms.
